Dealing with theft
Best practice is to insist on a police report whenever money or other assets are lost or stolen. A police report will:
- Enable your organisation to make a claim on an insurance policy, if there is one.
- Help to discourage future theft.
In the accounts, you should
- Enter the lost amount on the 'payments' side of the accounts.
- Write an explanation of the loss to accompany the accounts.
