Letting it slip

The project manager had kept records and some receipts but had not checked his cash balance or prepared any accounts since the project started three months ago. He had also mixed private and organisational expenses for himself and project staff. His line manager in the main country office continued to advance cash without asking for any accounts.

When the project manager finally did write up his accounts he found one large advance which he had hidden in a suitcase and forgotten about. He had to try and find receipts for payments made three months before; many were missing, and he couldn't recall what they were for. It took a long time and he had to use his own money to make the accounts balance.
