Transfer of funds
The safest way of transferring funds is usually through the international banking system.
This is not always possible or practicable. Banks may not exist or you may not have opened an account. Choice of bank is very important. Banks can provide a very poor service and occasionally they go bankrupt. Case study
Possible alternatives are:
- Cash carried by team members.
- Travellers cheques carried by team members. These must be signed only once, otherwise they are the equivalent of cash.
- Cash carried by professional couriers.
- Grey transfers e.g. a trader provides local currency in return for payment into a foreign account.
While they may be quicker, all these have risks, which should be considered before they are used. See Transferring cash in Controls section resources.
